Assembly

You will need:

A printer, ideally colour. Single-sided (non-duplex) is fine.
A4 or A5 paper or card. I recommend at least 80GSM thickness for paper, although it will work with less. In these examples, I have used 160GSM card.
Clear tape, no more than 19mm width. You can use wider tape and cut to width. I used 19mm Sellotape - the small rolls.
Either scissors, or all of a cutting mat, craft knife and ruler.

Print 1-sided onto paper or card. Cut out the figure as shown, keeping the blank top space, and keeping the space at the bottom with the figure name.
Bend the base spaces inwards. If you have a craft knife and ruler, you may find it helps to lightly score along the base lines before bending.
Curve the figure around and tape the base spaces together. The "top" of the figure is unlikely to perfectly line up with the grid lines, which is why bending rather than folding is better at this stage.
Push the base inwards and gently pinch the top of the figure.
Allow the larger base space to fold up inside the figure, using the tape as a hinge. Firmly fold the figure flat.
Your figure can now be flat-packed for storage and travel.
To expand the figure, gently pull down the larger base space, and it should hook into position to keep the figure rigid. To flat-pack again, try gently squeezing the entire figure with your forefinger at the top of the figure, and your thumb at the base of the figure. If that doesn't work, then just pull upwards at the larger base flap.
